A common problem that secondary students have with their continuing English Language education here in Hong Kong, are the demands placed upon them by both school and parents. The number of hours spent in school aligned to the amount of homework being given, can sometimes make it a little difficult for students to find time to continue certain aspects of their education. This is why, at Cantab Education, we are always sensitive to the needs of the student, their school based work, their parents wants and needs but especially the students need to ensure that their language education can continue to develop through these very important years.
It’s a very big step to take to move from primary school to secondary school and unfortunately, one of the very first things to suffer, in our opinion, is the student’s level of English, especially their spoken English. To ensure that all of our students are able to continue their language education after leaving primary school, classes are always re-scheduled to ensure there are no clashes with school work, students are placed with students within their own peer group and ability level and classes have been designed to match the increasing social needs of students as they grow and develop their own set of ideals, needs, wants and social beliefs.
As with all of Cantab’s English Foundation classes, students can expect to develop language similar in style to that they shall be experiencing at school although because of Cantab’s very small class sizes for secondary students (6 students) and longer class times, it allows us to expand further than students may be able to at school.
